When can you come?

Each season brings different types of fish to the forefront, setting a new and exciting challenge for even the most hardened angler.

Recently, the increase in water temperature has ensured a good supply of Black Bream and Trigger fish during the autumn months.

We've built The Guernsey Angling Calendar to give you an idea of what you can catch when, so you can carefully select your preferred time to visit.

To put it bluntly, there's never a bad time to fish Guernsey, never!

A colourful Ballan Wrasse caught on an West coast Guernsey mark.

Spring.

A great time to dust down the tackle and see what’s around, Thick lipped Mullet will be coming into the bays and gullies to spawn. Bass will be swimming around our bays feeding on the first of the peeler crabs and those big bold Ballans will be searching the kelp beds for food, putting on even more weight. It's an exciting time to have your bait in the water as everything is coming to life and the potential for that fish of a life time is there for you.

Summer.

What better way is there to get a suntan than fishing for a Mackerel supper from one of our many shore marks, Garfish and Grey Mullet will also be in abundance.

Bass will be gorging themselves on Sandeels in many of the bays and numerous other species will have moved inshore, it’s  an angler’s paradise. We have some fabulous beaches so while you are fishing the rest of the family could be enjoying the sun, sand and an ice cream.

Autumn.

My favorite time of year as it’s quieter and some species come into there own, Trigger fish, Black Bream, Couches Bream, Red Mullet and Sole start moving inshore. Herm is a great venue this time of year, well worth a day trip or a longer stay with some planning as their self catering cottages will sleep up to five so you could bring the family.

Winter.

For some this is when the tackle gets put away but for the real enthusiast who doesn’t mind casting that bait in the rain and wind then rewards can be great as we have resident species that will continue to excite those prepared to put the effort in.
